In Loving Memory Of

Ragaa R. Girgis

02/21/1941 - 06/11/2010

Born the first of six children to a wealthy merchant, her mom passed away when she was 12.

She became a role model for her siblings. She believed in much more than this world, and wanted to make sure while she was here she would live a life of sacrifice.

Her first calling was to the Church, went to school under the direction of nuns and became a seamstress. She created works of art on canvas with her talent. She thought the convent was where she should be. When Dad came calling, too shy to even look up, she trusted in God's decision.

A few years later with two young children, and a country seeming to grow intolerant of her beliefs, she agreed with her husband that they needed to find a new home. When they immigrated to the U.S. they left behind all that was comfortable.

Working in hot sewing factories, a long way from the art she created with her skills, she and Dad made a home for us here. She taught us to be kind to all, and to love and trust God.

She would never argue, or try to convince someone she was right, although she always was. We all grew to understand the gift of her counsel.

She couldn't sleep for days when she heard she would be a grandmother to twins. She spent the next several months sewing their early garments. At their birth the joy in her face told the story of her life.

She would only enjoy them for 16 months. When God called upon her at such a young age it seemed so unfair. We should have understood, He was only lending her to us, it was time for her to go back to His home.
