AGE: 91 • Toms River

Richard A. Foster, 91, of Toms River, N.J., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Newark, N.J. on September 23, 1925 to the late Arthur Foster and Julia (McPartland) Foster, he resided in Springfield, N.J. for many years before moving to Toms River, N.J. in 1988.

Dick attended Seton Hall University prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Southwest Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a proud member of VFW8885. He was employed as a steamfitter for Local 475 in Warren, N.J. and is a lifetime member.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Claire (nee Meyler); and their four daughters, Susan Leitzsch (Thomas) of Williamsburg, Va., Joann Perseghin (Richard) of Ocean, N.J., Jacqueline Hydock (Robert) of Clark, N.J., and Lisa Monfredi (Nicholas) of Scotch Plains, N.J. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John V. Foster and great-grandchild, Brody Hydock.

Visiting will be Sunday 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home 2482 Church Rd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday 10:30am at St. Luke's RC Church, arrive at the funeral home 9:30am. Cremation will be private.
