AGE: 86 • Spring Lake Heights

Richard F. Ulbrich, 86, of Spring Lake Heights, NJ passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. His generosity, wit and constant humor will be greatly missed.

Born in Erie, PA, and having proudly served in the Naval Reserve, he had been a resident of the Spring Lake since 1964.

As a member of St. Catharine's parish, he became active in multiple service organizations and began dedicating a large portion of his time giving to community. He was a volunteer and later president of the Monmouth County Chapter of the . He was a volunteer and chairman of Deborah Hospital Foundation, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a Boy Scout Scoutmaster. He was also an avid fisherman who loved to be out on the jetty catching striped bass.

He was most proud of his service to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad with 50 years of service in various roles including President. It is estimated that he answered over 13,000 first aid calls in the course of his dedication to the squad. He was among the first responders to the World Trade Center aftermath on 9/11.

His awards include: Manasquan Man of the Year, Spring Lake Heights Man of the Year and in 2013 was awarded the NJ Outstanding Volunteer EMT by the NJ Emergency Medical Services Council.

Married for 66 years, he is survived by his wife Anna Mae Ulbrich. He is also survived by his sons and daughter: Richard Ulbrich Jr and grandchildren, Kendall and Gregory, daughter Karen Creter, her husband Richard Creter and grandchild, Mark Millet, son Raymond Ulbrich and grandchildren, Alexandra and Marina and by his son Roger Ulbrich and his wife Sondra Ulbrich.

A Memorial Service is planned for St. Catharine's Church, 215 Essex Ave.Spring Lake for Tuesday, January 3 at 10:30am. All are invited to attend. Please go directly to the Church on Tuesday as there will not be a procession from the Funeral Home.
