May 17, 1943 - August 20, 2017

Richard James Trocchia, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 20, 2017 in Freehold. Born in and raised in Long Branch to the late Frank and Lillian (Sannelli) Trocchia, Richard then moved and raised his family in the Wayside section of Ocean Township.

Richard taught English at Long Branch High School for 24 years. He owned and operated several businesses and finished his formal teaching career at the New Jersey Training School for Boys in Jamesburg. After his retirement, Richard continued to teach as a substitute at Neptune High School. He loved his home and gardening and enjoyed collecting Lionel trains. He loved the Yankees and was a little league coach for his sons. He also loved boating with his wife on their Sea Ray but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia M. (Clarke) Trocchia; his two sons Richard James Trocchia, Jr., his wife Catherine and William Frank Trocchia and his wife Julianna; and his daughter, Janice Trocchia Waple and her husband Brian. Richard had five beloved grandchildren: Conor, Aidan, Jack, Angelina and Mary Catherine. He is also survived by his brother Robert Trocchia and his wife Pamela and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Ave., Bradley Beach, NJ at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 followed by burial at Woodbine Cemetery and Mausoleum, Oceanport.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the , 331 Newman Springs Rd. #43, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
