Richard K. RANKIN Obituary
Richard K rANKIN

AGE: 82 • Manchester

Richard K. Rankin, 82, of Renaissance, Manchester, passed away on February 16, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. He was born in Staten Island, NY, lived in the Parlin section of Sayreville for 23 years before moving to Manchester in 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy (1952-1956) during the Korean War and was proudly employed as an Electrician for over 35 years for the IBEW Local #358, Perth Amboy, before retiring. Rich was a devoted husband, loving father and was known as "Pops" to his 5 grandchildren who he adored and who adored him.

Rich enthusiastically enjoyed all sports especially playing competitive fast pitch softball in the Service, Industrial and Bar Leagues during the 1950's and 1960's. He coached Morgan Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Morgan Panthers for many years and was a past President for Sayreville High School Touchdown Club. But he especially loved watching his grandchildren participate in all their sports activities. Rich loved traveling with his wife to Europe, Alaska, and cruising all over Mexico and the Caribbean. His absolute favorite was being on a family cruise with all his children and grandchildren. Rich actively pursued many hobbies including hunting, fishing, golf, bowling and bocce, and liked nothing more than spending time with his many friends he met throughout his life. He was a member of a number clubs and leagues while living in Renaissance, winning championships, enjoying laughs and just having a great time. Rich truly was a happy man who enjoyed his "happy hours" in Arizona visiting his daughter and here at home.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence and his parents, Frederick & Rose Rankin. He is survived by his three children and their families, daughter Lori & John Maloney, of New Hope, PA; daughter, Patti Rankin-Miyagi & Chuck Murphy, of Phoenix, AZ; son Richard S. & Nancy Rankin, of Jackson; and five grandchildren: Raelani Miyagi, Austin & Caroline Maloney, Ryan & Brady Rankin. Visitation is Monday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Tuesday, 11:00am at St. John's Church, Lakehurst. Cremation will be private.
