AGE: 72 • Bayville

Richard W. Burke, 72, of Bayville, NJ died Tuesday, January 1st, 2017 peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He fought the good fight for more than 8 years and never lost his optimism. Born in Rahway, NJ, he spent much of his childhood in Flagler Beach, Florida and Bayshore, Long Island, where he developed his love of boating, fishing and the sea. While serving in the US Army, 3rd Infantry, he was proud to have been chosen as part of the initial Honor Guard at the grave of President John F. Kennedy. He also served in the Air National Guard and worked in the commercial construction industry as a superintendent. He was also a member the B.P.O Elks Lodge #2151 in Brick. Rich Loved working with his hands, was a true artisan and spent many hours in his workshop woodworking. If he made you something, you would treasure it always. He also enjoyed sharing his love of the sea with his six grandchildren who will cherish those memories.

Rich was predeceased by his father, Robert Burke Sr., brother Robert Burke Jr., and his sister Nancy Burke. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith (Nabbe) Burke, his daughter Julie Burke-White and husband Drew White, son Richard W. Burke II and wife Michelle Burke and daughter Jessica Charles and husband Donta' Charles, and his six loving grandchildren, Colin and Evan White, Cameron and Jaycen Burke, and London and DJ Charles, his mother Herta Burke, sister Darlene Burke, and many caring nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Also included is his canine pal "Charlotte".

A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 14th, from 2pm to 4pm, with a Life Celebration Service at 3:30pm, in the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd. (Rt.#9), Bayville, NJ 08721. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, (www.stjude.org), in Richard's memory.
