Rita Ellen Oliva Surdi Obituary
Rita Ellen Oliva Surdi

Born April 1st, 1942 in Morristown, New Jersey, her family relocated to East Keansburg where she graduated Middletown High School. Rita married and moved to Toms River. She was always industrious and was successfully self-employed in real estate, owned a small shop in Deal NJ for several years and owned and managed a maintenance company for the elderly. She was always a strong advocate for animal rights and volunteered and co-founded organizations that rescued, fostered and adopted out countless animals over a twenty year span.

She adored animals, music, flowers, art, dancing and life. At 44, she became permanently disabled and lived the last 31 years as a fiercely independent disabled person who seldom allowed her handicap to stand in the way of enjoying life. Rita will be remembered for her vibrant personality, compassion for the underdog, strong will and great sense of humor.

Rita leaves a son, Joseph A. Surdi and daughter Laura F. Marko and son in law, Daniel Marko and three grandchildren, Madison, Alexandra and Victoria. She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and a loyal friend. There will be a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the or to the ASPCA. Services are private under the direction of the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River.
