Tinton Falls - Robert Baker, Jr., 79, of Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away on January 21, 2018, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, NJ. He was born to the late Mr. Robert Baker, Sr. and Mary Griffin Baker on October 22, 1938, in Long Branch, NJ. He attended the Katzenbach School for the Deaf, Ewing, NJ, where he was very active in basketball and football. At school, he also studied horticulture. He loved the outdoors, plants and animals. He also had a great love for lighthouses.

He worked various jobs throughout his life, including Brick Church Appliances, Tinton Falls, NJ, and the Printing Department at Fort Monmouth, NJ, where he met many friends who were also deaf. He was a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, NJ for over 50 years. While there, he served as an usher. When he was unable to travel, he attended Good Hope Baptist Church, Asbury Park, NJ with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Eva M. Toppin and Shirley Bradley; and his brother William Griffin.

He is survived by his sisters, Rose Marie Terry and Edna Miller, both of Tinton Falls, NJ, Constance Henry, of Red Bank, NJ; his niece Adrienne Marie Baker-Statham, nephews Terryn W. Statham and William C. Statham, all of NewYork, NY; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held for Mr. Baker from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at Good Hope Baptist Church, Asbury Park, NJ. The Going Home Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. The interment will be held at White Ridge Cemetery Eatontown, NJ.
