Toms River - Robert G Ryan of Toms River, NJ, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on December 28, 2017 at the age of 90. Robert "Bob" was born on December 24, 1927 in Bloomfield, NJ. He graduated from Bloomfield HS and went on to earn his B.A. degree from Seton Hall University.

Bob married Joan Edelmann, also of Bloomfield, on June 5, 1948. They had five children and raised their family in Randolph Township (Ironia), NJ where they lived for 35 years.

Bob initially worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and then worked for Allied Chemical, Harmon Colors, retiring from Bayer AG. Bob and Joan then retired to Greenbriar Woodlands in Toms River, NJ where they resided for the last 25 years. Bob was active in the Greenbriar Woodlands community. He especially enjoyed golf and cards (Bridge, Poker) and was an avid reader.

He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Ryan as well as brothers Frank "Hap" Ryan, Jr and Thomas "Tommy" Ryan.

Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan Edelmann Ryan of Toms River, his sister Jane Ryan Stevenson of Toms River and his five children: Marianne Ryan Westerfield (Gary) of Orange, CA; Susan Ryan Stasyshan (Richard) of Granger, IN; Daniel R Ryan of Del Mar, CA; Timothy Ryan of Key West, FL; Peter Ryan (Susan) of Easton, PA. Six grandchildren also survive him: Ryan Stasyshan of Granger, IN; Kira Stasyshan Morris (Peter) of Santa Monica, CA; James Stasyshan of London, UK; Morgan Ryan Angle (Syd) of Jersey City, NJ; Kevin Ryan of Philadelphia, PA; Daniel Ryan of Philadelphia, PA as well as three great grandchildren: Sierra Stasyshan, Lila Morris, and Peri Morris.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 PM on January 13, 2018 at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08753. www.silvertonmemorial.com.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cancer Research Institute.
