AGE: 86 • Spring Lake

Robert J. Sherry passed away after a long struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jayne and his brothers John and Eugene and a sister Eleanor, his father Maurice and his mother Mary.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Mary Jayne Nelson, Mrs. Kelly Ann Faville and Mrs. Susan Munro, his sons in law, Thomas Nelson, Jonathan Faville and Mark Munro and nine grandchildren, Ryan, Sean and Christopher Nelson, Nicholas, Christian and Caroline Faville and Meredith, Courtney and Jacqueline Munro and his sisters Eileen Butler and Maurice Carlin.

Bob was born in Jersey City, New Jersey where he attended St. Michaels High School and St. Peter's University. He started his business career with Warren Brothers Company, the leading asphalt producer in the nation, and spent his entire career in the road building industry. After serving two years in the United States Navy, he returned to the company where he was promoted to the position of Treasurer and shortly thereafter to Vice President.

When the company was acquired by Ashland Oil, one of the leading oil refiners in the country, he was elevated to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Ashland Construction Company. When that company was later acquired by a London based conglomerate, British Tyre and Rubber, Bob continued as President and CEO of the successor company, Tilcon, until his retirement in 1994.

Bob's primary recreational interest was golf and he was a longtime member of the Glen Ridge Country Club, the Longboat Key Golf Club and the Spring Lake Golf Club. He served on the Boards of Glen Ridge Golf Club and the Longboat Terrace complex in Longboat Key Florida where he served as President for twelve consecutive years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, New Jersey 07762. Entombment will be in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ.
