Manahawkin - Robert Joseph (Bob) Simmons born October 9, 1928. Died March 22, 2018.

Survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia (Pat) O'Rourke Simmons. Seven Children: Michael Simmons (Janet Fiorenza), Kathy Simmons, Robert Simmons, (Maryann Faccenda), Gregory Simmons (Theresa Koebel), Patricia Finnegan (Patrick Finnegan), Kevin Simmons (Cheryl Black), and Beth Paris (Steve Paris). Sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter, Marguerite (Peggy) Simmons and a grandson, Connor Simmons.

Bob grew up in Irvington, NJ graduating in 1946 from Irvington High School. He served three years in the United States Navy as an Electronic Technician. He graduated from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in June of 1952, Bob and Pat were married on June 28, 1952. He joined National City Bank as a trainee in their Overseas Division. In December of 1952 they left New York to take a post in Sao Paulo, Brazil where Bob served as a foreign exchange trader for three years. He returned to head office in Manhattan in 1956. He served in the Overseas Division covering Latin America, the Correspondent Banking Division covering the western US and the Aerospace division from NY before accepting a post as a Senior Credit Officer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in July of 1978. In June 1981 Bob accepted the position of Senior Credit Officer overseeing western South America from Caracas, Venezuela. He served there until the fall of 1983 when he moved into a similar position covering Central America from Mexico City.

Bob accepted early retirement from Citi Bank in 1988. Shortly afterward he joined American Express Bank as a Managing Director responsible for collecting bad corporate loans worldwide. By 1995 he had successfully worked himself out of a job and retired for the second time. Saying that it took him 5 minutes to find out that retirement was a really good thing, Bob enjoyed time with family and friends, boating and fishing, volunteer work at St. Francis Parish, service on the Board of Directors of the SOCH Foundation (Southern Ocean Medical Center). He wants to be remembered as someone who treated everyone he met with equal respect be they President or Shoe shine boy.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ on Tuesday, April 3 at 11 AM. Family and friends are invited to visit in the church beginning at 10 AM. Private interment at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Manahawkin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Community Center or Southern Ocean County Medical Center Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 1119 Long Beach Blvd., Ship Bottom.
