Robert "Ted" Theobald Obituary
Robert "Ted" Theobald

Manchester - Robert "Ted" Theobald, 89, of Manchester, NJ died on Monday, May 20, 2019. Born in North Bergen, NJ and spending much of his youth on Long Island, NY, he eventually became a longtime resident of Bayonne, NJ upon marriage. It was here where he raised his own family, before finally moving to Manchester sixteen years ago. Ted was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Ted also earned an MBA from Fordham University only two years later. With a career in the steel industry that spanned over 45 years, Ted worked for the Crucible Steel Company (owned by Colt Industries) and later for the Latrobe Steel Company (subsidiary of the Timken Company). He officially retired in 1998. Ted enjoyed vacationing at the Jersey shore each summer, was an avid photographer, had a passion for reading and thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family. Upon retiring, he frequently split time between New Jersey and Florida allowing him to spend equal time with his grandchildren. Early on, Ted was a Scout leader in Bayonne, actively involved with Boy Scout Troop 25 sponsored by St.Vincent De Paul RC Church and was a member of Bayonne's Knights of Columbus Council #371. He was a member of the American Society for Metals (ASM) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). A devout Catholic, Ted was a current parishioner of St John's Church in Lakehurst, NJ. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Theresa Theobald, nee Koziol, two sons and their wives, Stephen and Catherine Theobald of Succasunna, NJ, Dr. Michael Theobald and Cheryl Mueller of Naples, FL, and his six grandchildren, Jonathan, Amanda, Douglas, Julia, Jeffrey, and Gregory. Ted will be dearly missed by family and friends. Visitation is Monday from 1-5 pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cooper Union in Ted's memory are welcome at https://www.support.cooper.edu. Funeral Liturgy is Tuesday at 10:00 am at St John's Church, Lakehurst, NJ with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
