Robert W. McCabe

Little Silver - 4/29/1929 - 12/4/2017 Bob lived in Keansburg, NJ until entering the Navy upon graduation from MTHS in Leonardo, NJ. After attending Champlain College he entered the insurance business, which was his life's work. Starting as a Debit Agent, 38 years later he retired as V.P. for Equitable's Northeastern Region. Gov. Nelson Rockefeller had him appointed as Chairman of the Advisory Board to the NY State Insurance Department. He served as Chairman of LIMRA's Health Insurance Committee; Chairman of the HIAA Training Committee and twice was elected by his peers for the Outstanding Performing Officer Award.

In private life he served as President and Member of the Borough Council in Little Silver, NJ, chairing the Fire and First Aid Committees. He was a charter member of the NMCRSA clean water project. March 17, 1954, he joined an organization helping alcoholics achieve and maintain sobriety…and he remained active in this program for over half a century. He served as a Trustee of the New Hope foundation; The San Alfonso Retreat House; and the Townhomes at Little Silver. At age 50 he completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Business.

He met Vivian while she was an Airline Stewardess for TWA, and after 6 dates asked for her hand in marriage which lasted lovingly until Vivian's death on October 5, 2015. After his wife's death he moved to NC to live with his daughter. Bob is survived by his sister, Virginia McCabe; 3 sons, James (Roman Catholic Priest), John (Marilyn), Thomas (Dana); a daughter Margaret Wentzel (Bill); Grandchildren; Amy Wentzel and Michael Wentzel; Jack McCabe, Sean McCabe and Daniel McCabe.

The action phrase he liked best in life is:

TO DO WHAT SHOULD BE DONE,

WHEN IT OUGHT TO BE DONE,

WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!

To him this was the shortest course to true happiness and serenity!!
