AGE: 84 • Tinton Falls

Rose Gilmore, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Tinton Falls on November 17, 2016. Rose was born in Queens New York to Antonio & Concetta Torchia; she was raised in East Orange, New Jersey where she met and married Walter Gilmore on November 10, 1951. They raised 5 children in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. She retired from Prudential in 1994 and moved to Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

Rose loved to cook and share Italian meals. Anyone was welcome. She also enjoyed playing games, jigsaw puzzles, scratching off lottery tickets and making her Atlantic City "deposits". Her true love though was her family. She was passionate, feisty, very courageous and truly cherished living.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Fred (Guy) who died in the Korean War, and recently her daughter-in-law, Joan Gilmore.

Rose is survived by her 5 children, Ginny Shurmaitis, Fred Gilmore, Gary Gilmore, Patty Mazzei , Joanne Stankiewicz; sons-in-law, Joe Shurmaitis, John Mazzei and Derek Stankiewicz; daughter-in-law, Diana Gilmore; her grandchildren, Eric, Kristen & husband Scott, Joey & wife Brittany, Cassidy, Amanda, Noel, Dylan, Gabby, Keith Jr., Jason, Shawna; her brother, Richard and sister-in-law Elisa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. Funeral, Tuesday, 9:30 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Anselm's Church in Tinton Falls. Entombment will be on Wednesday, November 23 at 11:00 am at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101 or the Monmouth County SPCA, P.O. Box 93, Eatontown, NJ 07724. Letters of condolence may be sent through the web at
