June 30, 2017 Rosemarie Jones Kelly, 90, passed away of natural causes at her home. The mother of five had been tended to by her loving family during her decline from a recent back injury. Eighteen years earlier, she was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, James Edward Kelly. She is survived by her children, Denise Kelly Stewart, Laura Kelly Murray, James D. Also deeply feeling the loss are her twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren with two additional due this year.

Rosemarie (born January 23, 1927) and her elder sister, Gloria were known in Atlantic Highlands as the Jones girls ( daughters in name only of Clarence Lorenzo Jones). They were raised by their mother, Mary Caruso Jones (nee Maria Louisa Caruso) the proprietor of West End Grocery. Rosemarie attended St. Agnes Grammar School and Atlantic Highlands High School. In 1943, at the age of 16, Rosemarie was accepted by the prestigious, Traphagen School of Fashion and Design in NYC. In 1945,her art career began as a pen and ink, fine jewelry illustrator for newspaper and magazine advertisements.

Marriage followed in April, 1949 and motherhood in June of 1950. In the '60s and '70s, she was a bookkeeper for Plaza Liquors and the Clam Hut Restaurant. In the '80s, she became a travel agent working for and subsequently owning Dukes Travel Service. This allowed her to extensively travel with her husband until his death in 1999. At the age of 75, she began to write, creating several published books, most notably, "Rosa". She was also a prolific fine artist.

But her greatest talent was making anyone entering her home feel truly welcome. Family and friends will never forget the fabulous Sunday dinners she would prepare, where all were welcome and the more people there, the happier she was. This woman of such warmth and tenderness will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her in life and we can only hope that future generations will look back and cherish her memory as an example of how to live a life of kindness, compassion, generosity and love.
