AGE: 80 • Tinton Falls

Ruth Shirley Heiden (nee Kaufman), 80 of Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls, New Jersey on December 24, 2016.

Born in Brooklyn, New York where she attended Newton High School. She attended Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan where she got her Registered Nursing license. She married in 1959, moved to Brooklyn and settled in Neptune, New Jersey in 1961 when her husband, Leo, got a job at the Laboratories at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown, New Jersey. She lived in Neptune most of her life and raised her family there, moving later to Manchester, New Jersey for 12 years before settling at Seabrook 3 and half years ago.

She received her Bachelor's of Arts degree in School Nursing and Health Care from Jersey City State College. She was a Registered Nurse with the State of New Jersey Department of Health, retiring in 2000. She was a member of Temple Beth Torah, Ocean, NJ and its Sisterhood, as well as briefly a member of Congregation Bnai Israel of Toms River, New Jersey. She was a life member of and active in the Shore and Rennaisance-in-Manchester Chapters of Hadassah.

She was pre-deceased by her son Peter in 1996.

She is survived by her beloved husband Leo, her devoted son David and his wife Randi, and her daughter-in-law Kerry Durels. She is also survived by her dear sister Barbara Cantor of Manhattan and her cherished grandchildren Max, Sara, Thomas and Paige.

The family would like to thank the Home Support and Social Work Department of Seabrook Village for their care and attention to Ruth as she became ill. The family would also like to acknowledge the professional medical staff at Jersey Shore Medical Center for their wonderful care and attention during her final days at the hospital and in palliative care there.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the , , The Lymphoma Center, The or the American Nurses Foundation.
