Sheila K. Singh Obituary
Sheila K. Singh

Red Bank

It is with profound gratitude for her precious and radiant life, that the family of Sheila Kaur Singh announces her serene and peaceful passing on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 in Red Bank, NJ, USA. Born on September 10th, 1963 to Mansa and Martha Singh in Chandigarh, PB, India, Sheila was raised in Calgary, AB, Canada. She obtained a B.A. (1986, Political Science and Sociology) from the University of Calgary and an M.A. (1991, Political Science) from McMaster University, before returning to Calgary to complete her L.L.B. (1994). Sheila practiced law with a large Calgary firm specializing in civil litigation before joining the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland as a Legal Officer with the Compensation Commission in 2000. In 2007 she joined the UN Mission in South Sudan to help support peacekeeping operations. She then moved to the United Nations in New York, working most recently in the Office of Legal Affairs where she retired in 2016 as a Senior Legal Officer. Sheila's commitment to humanitarian service was equaled by her lifelong love for music. She performed as a cellist with the Calgary Youth Orchestra, the Calgary Civic Symphony, and the United Nations Orchestra in both Geneva and New York. Sheila had an insatiable appetite for all books, delighted in deep conversations, and always expressed her interest and compassion for others. With family, friends, or on her own, she travelled the world with joy and curiosity. Some personal highlights included walking the Inca trail in Peru and the Camino de Santiago in Spain, boating along the Amazon River, and cruising in the Antarctic.

Sheila is survived by her husband John E. Rosendale; her father Dr. Mansa C Singh; sisters Kiren (Scott), Meera (Robert) and Indra (Leo); nephews and niece Benjamin, Maxwell, Christopher and Carolyn; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law in Canada, India and the U.S., and by all those who loved her. Sheila was predeceased by her mother Martha Ruth Singh (nee Ghormley). The Singh and Rosendale family would like to thank the teams at both the Riverview Medical Centre and the Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre for their dedicated, meticulous and compassionate care of Sheila, with special thanks to Dr.'s Scher, Dupree, Paty and Allen.

A Memorial Service will be held at on Friday, August 25th, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Tillman Chapel, Church Center for the United Nations, 777 United Nations Plaza (1st Avenue and 44th Street), New York, N.Y., U.S.A.
