Stehen C. Sasse, age 66, of Brick, NJ passed away on Saturday, May 6th 2017 at his home. Stephen was born in Hackensack, NJ, residing in Bay Head for most of his life. A 1969 graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, Stephen continued his education attending Mars Hill University in North Carolina attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Teaching. Beginning his career teaching, Stephen coached at Toms River South, until his life took him to Point Pleasant Borough High School where he taught for nine years. In 1989 Stephen established himself at Point Pleasant Beach High School for the remainder of his career as a history teacher, mentor, and coach, until he retired in 2011. While at Point Pleasant Beach High School, he had a major influence in the athletic department. Stephen coached for the school's baseball, softball, football, and wrestling teams. He was successful in bringing the wrestling team to a 211-119-4 record. In 1991, he lead the team to the school's first of twelve conference championships. Under his tenure, he coached the first region champion in 1992 and first state champion in 1998. He was nominated the District Coach of the Year in 1991 and was the Region Six Hall of Fame Inductee in 2006. Stephen spent many summers volunteering for the Bay Head Improvement Association. Stephen Sasse influenced many lives throughout his life and will be dearly missed.

Stephen is survived by his long time significant other Marilyn Osmundsen, his two children, John C. Sasse, and his wife Traci Sasse, and Mark Sasse and friend Dominique Triola. Stephen is also survived by his grandchildren, Lucas James and Lydia Joy; by his father Ferdinand Sasse, cousins Richard & Roxanne Sasse, and Michael & Barbara Williams. Stephen is preceded in death by his mother Gladys McIntire Forsythe.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 12-2 pm and 4-7 pm at Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. The funeral prayer service will begin 6:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Stephen's memory to the Point Pleasant Beach Wrestling Team and mail to 299 Cooks Lane, Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, 08742.
