Stephen Francis Wilder Sr.

AGE: 70 • Mantoloking, NJ

Stephen Francis Wilder Sr. of Mantoloking, NJ died May 4 in Delray Beach, FL. He was 70. Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Eileen (Clark) and John Wilder. He resided in East Meadow, NY and later North Bellmore, NY, graduating from W.C. Mepham High School in 1964 and then from St. Bonaventure University in 1968.

After graduation, Stephen served in the U.S. Army in Germany and Vietnam, attaining the rank of Captain. A decade later, he switched his commission to the U.S. Naval Reserves and retired as a Commander after more than 25 years of service.

Stephen had a successful career in finance, working at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Bankers Trust Company and retiring as a senior Vice President for JP Morgan Chase.

Stephen resided in Maplewood and South Orange, NJ for 30 years and was active in the local community. He served as a Boy Scout Leader for 15 years. He also served as a Blue and Gold Officer for the Naval Academy, recruiting candidates for admission. After relocating to Mantoloking, Stephen served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary based in Atlantic City and Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ. He also dedicated more than 3,000 hours in service to the Morristown National Historical Park where he led tours for visitors and school children, maintained nature trails and assisted with historical research, among other beloved tasks.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rebecca (Young); son Stephen and wife Oksana; daughter Kathryn and husband Hunter Bryant; son Patrick and wife Lucy; brothers Jay Wilder and Gerard Wilder; sisters Celeste Walsh and Jeanine Wilder; and four grandchildren, Hugh, Graham and Ella Bryant and Eileen Wilder.

A memorial service will be held in mid June in Florham Park, NJ. Burial will at Arlington National Cemetery.
