AGE: 74 • Ocean Township

Stephen Joseph Lauchaire, 74 of Ocean Twp. and formerly of Hasbrouck Heights passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Stephen was born in New York, NY and proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He resided in Hasbrouck Heights for 35 years where he raised his family. He had resided in Ocean Twp for the past 10 years.

Stephen was employed as the Associate Comptroller at Columbia University and prior to this he had been employed at both the Pratt and Stevens Institutes.

He was an avid reader and book collector who had collected over 16,000 books in his lifetime.

Despite his many accomplishments, his proudest and most memorable moments were attained through time spent with his beloved wife, devoted daughters and his cherished grandchildren.

Stephen enjoyed planning outings for his grandchildren to the playground, the pool, and the movies. Of course, he loved spending time sharing his love of reading with them. He was an integral part of his grandchildren's lives and a piece of him will live in each of them forever.

He was predeceased by his parents Francis and Stephanie Lenda Lauchaire. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Lee (nee Cavanagh) Lauchaire, his daughters and their spouses Sharon Lauchaire Miller and husband Richard Miller of Lawrenceville and Suzanne Lauchaire Lubomski and husband Stephen Lubomski of Maplewood, his 5 grandchildren Charlotte, Gavin, Nolan, Abby, and Landon, his siblings Andrew Lauchaire and wife Linda of Annandale, and Marilyn Neiderer and husband Charles of Glen Allen, Va. and Lee's brother and wife James and Dorinda Cavanagh of Oradell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday morning from 9:00am to 10:00am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ 07719. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00am on Saturday at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 343 S. Broad St., Trenton, NJ 08608. Burial will be in Ewing Church Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to FOREbatten to fund medical research for Juvenile Batten Disease, a rare and fatal neurological disease affecting Stephen's extended family., 512-275-2600, PO Box 50221, Austin TX 78763.
