Thomas G. Tierney Obituary
Thomas G. Tierney

AGE: 79 • Lakewood

On Saturday, July 22, 2017 the world lost a bit of light as Thomas G. Tierney (Tom, Tommy, Dad and PopPops) a longtime resident of Lakewood, NJ passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He left us as he lived, smiling and surrounded by loved ones. He is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Patrick, and his son, John. He is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 54 years; his daughter Annemarie, his son David and wife Luann, and his son Peter and his wife Naoko; his grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan, Koga and Ena; and his brother John and his wife Jean Tierney. Tom also had a large number of extended family members and friends and will be deeply missed by all.

Tom was born in New York City to Scottish immigrant parents, graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and proudly served his country as a US Naval Officer. He also worked for more than 40 years as a civilian communications engineer for the Department of the Army at Ft. Monmouth in Eatontown, NJ.

Tom was a natural comedian, always ready with a funny story or a really bad joke. He loved fixing old cars, cheesy movies, reading and animals, but, above all he loved his family. He made family his priority and never missed his children's or grandchildren's sporting events, concerts, plays, dance recitals or important life events. He was also an active and committed member of St. Veronica's Church parish in Howell, NJ for many years.

Funeral services will begin with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Saturday, September 2, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Highlands, NJ followed by a burial service at the Fair View Cemetery in Middletown, NJ and a celebration of his life.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Sarcoma Foundation of America or the Popcorn Zoo Animal Reserve and Sanctuary in Forked River, NJ

Funeral services are under the direction of Posten's Funeral Home, Atlantic Highlands, NJ
