AGE: 68 • Longboat Key, FL

Thomas P. McKenna, 68, of Longboat Key, Fl. and Avon by the Sea, died peacefully Tuesday, February 28, 2017 with his family at his side at Hackensack Meridian JSMC Hospital after battling cancer with honor and dignity.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late James and Johanna (nee: Kennedy).

Tom proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, the 11th Armored Calvary Division know as the "Black Horse" during the Vietnam war.

Tom was a member of the Enterprise Association of Steamfitters Local Union 638 and took great pride in his work.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Tom is predeceased by his parents and his brother John.

He is survived by his beloved, devoted wife of 40 years, Dr. Michaele McKenna (former Principal of Lincroft Elementary School) and his loving siblings and their spouses; Daniel & Eileen, James & Donna, Mary Jane & Kevin McGuire, sister's in law Patricia and Dr. Anthony Micale and Jo-Ellen Basaman. His nieces and nephews Coleen and Danny Masonni, Kerry, Erin, and Daniel McKenna, Kathleen and Tim Flanagan, Kevin Mc Guire, Donna and Rich Fingerlin, Megan and Michael Pepe, Jimmy and Brian McKenna, Leigh Ann, Michael, and David Basaman, and Marybeth and Scott Hershkowitz,.and grandnieces and grandnephews Kennedy, Lindsay, Christian McKenna, Eric, Matthew, and Nicolas Massoni, Caitlyn, Vanessa and Olivia Fingerlin, Stella and Caroline Pepe, Ellie, Matthew and Kate Hershkowitz, Amy Basaman, and Kacie McKenna.

A Celebration of his life will be on Thursday, March 2, from 3:00 - 5:00 & 7-9 pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Ave. Red Bank, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 3, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C.Ch. 424 Lincoln Ave. Avon by the Sea, NJ with Entombment immediately following at St. Catherine's Cemetery, 1100 W. Chicago Blvd. Sea Girt, NJ.

In lieu of flowers donations to Ashley Laruen Foundation, 309 Morris Ave. D, Spring Lake, NJ 07762 in memory of Thomas is appreciated. The foundation is for Pediatric Cancer.
