Vernie Van Dyke

Wall

Vernie Van Dyke, nee Elverna Bernice Headley, was born in Atlantic City in 1914 and graduated from Glassboro Normal School. A resident of Wall and Brick Townships, she taught in Brielle, Pt Pleasant, Herbertsville and Veteran's Memorial elementary schools. As a retiree, she was active in the Allaire Village Auxiliary, the Manasquan Woman's Club, and the Greenbriar Service, Masque and Red Hat groups. An avid crafter, Vernie's teddy bears, dolls and toys raised charity dollars. She returned to the head of the class to teach line dancing and travelled to every state in the US as well as Europe, South and Latin Americas, Asia and Australia. Vernie loved to read, recite poetry, sing and play her ukulele.

Vernie is survived by her daughters, Patricia Lundervold and Susan Schaefer, and her son James Van Dyke, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Allaire Chapel on Feb. 18 at 11 AM followed by a reception in the all purpose building for all who wish to celebrate her life.
