Dr. Vincent J. Begley Obituary
Dr. Vincent J. Begley

Tacoma, WA - On Thursday the 22nd of February retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Vincent James Begley MD passed away peacefully in Tacoma Washington at the age of 80 surrounded by his family. Dr. Begley was the youngest of four boys born to James and Mary Begley in Newark New Jersey. After his graduation from St. Benedict's high school his wish was to join his father in the tug boat business but his father a veteran of many arduous years in the trade wanted more for his son than a life on the water. Vincent's solution was to join the Navy where he became a corpsman on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain. It was an experience he cherished and an opportunity to make lifelong friendships with his crewmates. It also afforded him his first opportunity to travel overseas and gave him an introduction to his future career. After his discharge he used his GI bill to earn his bachelor's degree from Farleigh Dickinson University. He was subsequently accepted to New York Medical College where he completed his medical degree and followed it with a residency in general surgery. Upon completion of his residency and a stint in the Public Health Service, he went into private practice in Manahawkin New Jersey. In 1979 his desire to travel with his family and serve his country prompted him to join the United States Army. During his time in the Army he was posted to Belgium, Arizona, Honduras, Iraq (Operation Desert Storm), California, and Kansas. In 1996 he and his wife retired to Oak Harbor Washington where he used his new found free time to become a master gardener.

Dr. Begley is survived by his wife of 51 years Camilla, his sons Brian (wife Dorothy) and Neil (wife Tamara), his grandchildren Megan and Ryan, his brother Edward, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers James and Robert.

A funeral Mass for Vincent will be held on March 17, 2018 at 11 A.M. at The Parish of St. Theresa in Little Egg Harbor Township New Jersey.
