Virginia Rose Meyer Dodd Obituary
Virginia Rose Meyer Dodd

AGE: 91 • Spring Lake Heights

Virginia Rose Meyer Dodd, of Spring Lake Heights NJ, passed away in the presence of her loving family, Saturday February 18, 2017 while residing at the Sunnyside Nursing Home in Wall Township NJ.

Born March 7, 1925 in Kearny NJ, she moved with her three children to Spring Lake Heights in 1967 after the death of her husband and their father, George, in November 1966.

Virginia, more well known as Ginny, was an active member of St Catherine's parish attending weekly mass and novena at St Margaret's Church in Spring Lake. Her love of her faith was only exceeded by the love she had for her family. She enjoyed family gatherings for holidays, birthday celebrations, and any other occasion when a family member or friend would stop by for a visit. She thoroughly enjoyed the music of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the big band sounds from her youth such as Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Count Basie and others. She loved to dance, especially to these sounds and on many occasion she would break out in to the twist, Peabody, or any other kind of dance. But her all-time favorite was Lawrence Welk and it was well known that you did not interrupt her while his show played on the TV.

Ginny also loved to get dressed up. Particularly when she went to the Belmar Fishing Club of which she was a member for many years. She was an incredibly classy dresser, often with a bow in her hair that would match the outfit she was wearing. For this she became infamous; the bows were her trademark and an outfit was not complete without one.

Ginny was predeceased by her husband, George, and her son-in-law, Thomas Hughes. She is survived by her children and their spouses, daughter Rosanne Hughes, eldest son George Meyer and his wife Cynthia, youngest son Edwin Meyer and his wife Rosaleen, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. It was her love of these grandchildren where Ginny really shined because it gave her the opportunity to do what she did best, take care of others. This was what made her thrive, her love for others, and her desire to help others whether young or old. She was nurturing in every way, and never asked or expected anything in return. She will be greatly missed by us all.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4-8pm at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 9am at St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church, 300 Ludlow Ave. Spring Lake, NJ. Burial will follow at St. Catharine Cemetery in Wall, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Virginia's memory to Spring Lake Heights Independent Fire Company #1, 700 6th Ave. Spring Lake Heights, NJ 07762.
