Walter E. Zehrfuhs

AGE: 92 • Whiting

Walter E. Zehrfuhs, 92, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13 at his place of residence. He was a Sales Engineer with Sales Associates in Maplewood for 45 years, retiring in 1994. Walter was a Veteran of the US Navy having served during WW II and is most proud to have been a "Tin Can Sailor" serving on the USS Simpson DD-221. He was a co-founder of the Scotch Plains Little League where he served as both a manager and president of the league for many years. He was a member of the Navy League, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born in Germany, he came to the USA as a boy in 1931 and settled in Union City. He was a former resident of Union County for most of his life and for a time in Pt. Pleasant, moving to Whiting in 2002.

Walter is predeceased by the late Dorothea Zehrfuhs in 2003. He is survived by his children, a son Steffen Zehrfuhs, a daughter Christine Zehrfuhs, 2 grandchildren, David and Diane and a great granddaughter, Michaela.

Friends may call on Saturday, March 18, from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting. A service will be held at 2:30pm. Interment of ashes with Military Honors will take place at a later date at the NJ Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
