Walter Thomas Carberry Obituary
Walter Thomas Carberry

On Saturday February 11, 2017, Walter Thomas Carberry died peacefully in his sleep, at home. Wally, as he was known to almost everyone, passed with his beloved Wife of 47 years, Rita, and his favorite daughter Darcy by his side.

A long illness did not stop " The Grizz " as he was known to his two loving Sons Ryan and Sean, from living an amazing life. In August of last year, he watched as Ryan married his Wife Jaime (Klein) Carberry. This past December, he celebrated Christmas with his whole family by his side.

Wally's deep, and unwavering faith was evident throughout his life. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Church for many years, as well as an enthusiastic Clam Shucker at the annual Festival of the Sea, where Wally wore his ever present-through all kinds of weather- shorts, laughed his raspy chuckle that always morphed itself into a booming laugh, and bragged to anyone who would listen, about swimming, dancing and painting with his favorite Grandaughter Ryann Lynn. For Wally, family came first, and he was always ready to grill up a great BBQ meal, any time of the year, and tell stories of his childhood in Brooklyn Heights.

A strong work ethic, and a love of hard work guided Wally through 50 years in The IBEW Local 3. He loved his work as an electrician, and was proud to have worked building both the Twin Towers of The World Trade Center, and the Brooklyn Bridge.

When Wally eventually retired to live " down the shore", he spent his days walking the beaches with his metal detector, clamming, and showing off his 50 year commemorative watch to his Lions Club buddies. In the days since his passing, his family has found comfort in the stories told by family, and far-flung friends, about the deep impact Wally had on their lives; funny stories of jokes played on rotten bosses, harrowing stories of Wally's determination to help during incredible tragedies, stories of shenannigans, adventures with his " grand-dogs " and many, many stories of Wally's great big lovable heart.

Walter Thomas Carberry was deeply loved, and will be sorely missed by his family, his Wife of 47 blissful years Rita (Wirth) Carberry, his children Darcy Kolodziej, Sean Carberry, Ryan Carberry and Daughter In Law Jaime (Klein) Carberry, his Grandaughter Ryann Kolodziej, Brother Kevin Carberry and Wife Jenny Ross, Sisters In Law Paula (Wirth) Murphy, Barabara (Wirth) Murphy, Brothers In Law Billy Wirth, and Joe Mazur. His Nieces, Jenn (Mazur) Cooper and Husband Ed Cooper, Cynthia (Mazur) Jeffords, Kristen Murphy, Jaime Wirth and Nephew Keith Murphy. Wally's Great Nieces Hannah Cooper and Isa Jeffords, as well as his Great Nephews Vincent Worth, Tristan Jeffords, and Chase Cooper who will certainly remember him with laughter, and love.

Wally is awaited in heaven by his parents Walter and Margaret Carberry, his Brother In Law Dennis Murphy, and his Sister Barbara Jane Carberry. As well as many Aunts and Uncles.

Services honoring Wally's life will be held on Wednesday February 15, 2017 from 3pm until 6pm at Lacey Memorial Funeral Home, 1022 Lacey Road in Forked River NJ.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis Church in Brant Beach, at 10 am Thursday, February16, 2017.
