AGE: 68 • Long Branch

Wayne Boyd Salter, 68 of Long Branch, passed away Wednesday June 21, 2017 at Monmouth Medical Center. He passed peacefully on his terms after family spent the previous night with him sharing, reminiscing, and remembering special times together.

He was a life long resident of Long Branch, a graduate of Long Branch High School in 1966, and attended Pfeiffer College in North Carolina before entering the United States Navy where he served four years.

He became a member of IBEW Local 400 and retired in 2014 as a foreman. He was a member of the Long Branch IAMA for 25 years and a member of the Long Branch VFW Post 2140. He was a member for 43 years at the Neptune Hose Fire Company, served as Captain in 1977, and became a Life Member in 1999. He joined BPOE Lodge Number 742 of Long Branch, NJ with his father by his side in 1970. During his time he chaired committees including Camp Moore and the Veterans Committee. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1989. He served as District Vice-President for the South Central District in 2002-2003. Every Thanksgiving, Wayne could be found carving the turkey at the Elks and serving the Long Branch Community.

He enjoyed spending time with his family above all. He spent long weekends at his camper, attended his grandchildren's sporting events, traveled yearly to the Moody Reunion in North Carolina, and enjoyed playing poker.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents Roberta & Fred Salter, Sr.; and his sister-in-law Kathy Salter. Surviving are his children Carrie & Carl Griffin, Long Branch, Jamie & Doug Dietz, Brick and Chad & Stefanie Salter, Boynton Beach, FL; his siblings Fred H. Salter, Jr., Long Branch and Marcia & Daniel Speck, West Long Branch; his grandchildren Hailey Marie, Connor, Carl Jr., Cassandra and Kyle; his long time loving companion Cheryl Stein, Long Branch and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation Sunday, June 25th 5:00 - 9:00 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. Funeral service Monday, June 26th 11:00 am at the funeral home.
