Whitfield Ivany Jr., 82, of Brick, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 30, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Whitfield and Elizabeth Robbins Ivany, his family lived in Astoria, Queens, before moving to Old Bridge, NJ. Mr. Ivany and his beloved wife Esther Bugbee Ivany have been residents of Brick since 1955. Mr. Ivany is a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1947-1951. Whitfield was an Ironworker, as his father before him, and his two older sons after him. He was a member of the Union Local 361 of Brooklyn for the past 60 years. He is a lifelong member of the Herbertsville Volunteer Fire Company, a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians Union 204-373, and played trombone and baritone for the South River Imperial Band, Sentimental Journey Band, and The Nocturnes Big Band. Whitfield was a dedicated member of the First Assembly of God Church in Freehold, and especially enjoyed sharing his faith and quality time with his cherished family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Bonnie Lee Ivany LaManna, in 2002; and his sister, Sara Jean Baylies, in 2008. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Ester Bugbee Ivany; his dear children, Priscilla Siegel and husband Donald of Bayville, Dennis Ivany and wife Diane of Waretown, Yvonne Cardoso and husband Joel of Barnegat, Whitfield Ivany III and wife Debbie of Brick, and Robert Ivany and wife Shelia of Point Pleasant; his 16 cherished grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at First Assembly of God Church, 272 Jackson Mills Road, Freehold. Interment will follow at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Whitfield's memory to the First Assembly of God Church, Freehold.
