William A. Burnette

AGE: 82 • Jackson

William "Bill" Andrew Burnette, 82, of Jackson went to his heavenly home Sunday morning, December 18, 2016, after battling a long illness. Born March 25, 1934 in Cordova, Alabama, Bill grew up learning auto mechanics from his father and worked in the local coal mines before enlisting in the army from 1952 to 1962 serving in Germany, Iran, and Ethipoia, as a cook and truck mechanic. After being honorably discharged, he moved to West Long Branch with Agatha, his wife of 53 years. There they raised their family and lived for 47 years before moving to Jackson 6 1/2 years ago. Bill worked as an electronic engineer for EAI before securing an engineering position in logistics at Fort Monmouth/CECOM where he worked for 26 years before retiring in 1994. He was involved in several top secret projects for the government and earned a commendation for expediting necessary equipment and materials to the theater of operation for the Desert Storm conflict in the early 90's. He also worked with a military development team to evaluate the accuracy of the GPS system in the early 90's traveling to various areas by helicopter to see if the existing 3 satellites at the time were able to report their exact position on earth. Bill had a generous spirit and was always ready and willing to help out in any way he could. He was extremely gifted and talented and could fix or make anything. He was always thinking and calculating solutions to problems that would arise. He was also a teacher, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Esther Burnette, his brothers, Shelby and Frank, Jr., his son Paul, who died in 1962, a daughter Debra, who died in 1975, and his wife, Agatha, who recently passed in July of 2014. Surviving are his 2 sons, Michael of Jackson, David of Greenwood Village, CO, his daughter Ann and son-in-law Robert Evans of Jackson, and 2 cherished granddaughters, Danielle and Anna Evans. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday, December 23rd, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester with funeral services commencing near the end of both visits. Burial will take place on Saturday, December 24th at 10 am at Princeton Memorial Park, Robbinsville.
