William B. "Bill" Stevenson Obituary
William "Bill" B Stevenson

AGE: 92 • Holmdel

William ("Bill") B Stevenson, a lifelong resident of Monmouth County, NJ, died on Monday at the age of 92.

Bill was born in Mount Holly, NJ on April 17, 1924, one of five children of William and Elsie Stevenson. After graduating from Freehold High School in 1942, Bill joined the Merchant Marines, and later transferred to the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Machinist Mate, 1st Class, in the Seabees. As a Seabee, Bill served during World War II in England and France, leaving the service in 1946. Upon returning to New Jersey, Bill married the love of his life, Helen Ronson (of Marlboro Township, NJ) on December 1, 1946, and opened the Texaco service station on the corner of Route 34 and 520 in Holmdel. Bill and Helen bought the adjacent property and over the next three years, built by hand the family home where Helen continues to reside. After running the service station for ten years, Bill joined the newly-formed Monmouth County Park System, where he worked as the Construction Coordinator for thirty years, retiring in 1986. After retirement from the park system, Bill ran a successful antique restoration business, traveled extensively with Helen, and was a devoted Pop-Pop to his three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Bill was a lifetime member of the Holmdel Volunteer Company No. 1, overseeing the construction of the new firehouse and serving in all positions, both executive and line officers. Bill also served as Special Police Officer and Violations Clerk for Holmdel Township for 10 years. Bill and Helen were active members of the Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro for more than 25 years, where Bill served as an Elder.

In addition to his beloved wife, Helen, Bill leaves behind a son, Kent William and his wife Ruthann, of Holmdel, and three devoted and grateful grandchildren: Richard ("Rick") William, of Hancock, Maine; Lee Ann Stevenson, (and husband, Andrew Muratore) of New York, New York; and William ("Bill") B. Stevenson III (and wife Tiffany), of Keyport, New Jersey; as well as eight admiring great-grandchildren: Nahum, Zev and Asher Stevenson (Rick), Owen and Luke Muratore (Lee Ann), and Ryan, Ian and Ashley Stevenson (Bill). Bill is also survived by his younger brother, Kenneth, and niece, Karen, of Grandby, Colorado.

A visitation will be held at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel on Saturday, January 21 from 2-6pm, followed immediately by a memorial service. To share a favorite memory or messages of condolence, please visit Bill's Book of Memories at
