William "Bill" Dunleavy, Jr.

Lavallette - William "Bill" Dunleavy, Jr., 83, of Lavallette passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018.

Born to Fire Chief, William E. and Ruth Dunleavy he was raised in Bellville, graduating from Bellville HS in 1953 where he was an accomplished running back and on the national champion rowing crew. He resided in Bloomfield before retiring to Lavallette. Bill retired from NJ Bell Telephone after 32 years as a construction manager and became a member of Telephone Pioneers. Upon retirement he was a volunteer for the Red Cross Disaster Relief providing aid after major disasters. Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Hambleton and an active member of the Tin Can Sailors. Bill was devoted family man and will be missed dearly.

Bill was predeceased by his son Paul and sisters Dorothy and Gloria. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marilyn and sons Michael and his wife Hilary of California, Kevin and his wife Anne of Bloomfield, Robert and his wife Suzanne of Pennsylvania, and John and his wife Tracey of New Providence. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Jasmine, Rachel, Matthew, Justin, Christopher, Jack, Daniel, Michael, Owen, and Mary and his great-grandchildren Mia and Graham.

A funeral mass will be held 10:45am on Wednesday, January 17, at Saint John Vianney RC Church, Colonia. Burial will follow at Saint Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lavallette First Aid Squad PO Box 334 Lavallette, NJ 08735.
