William G. Shearer Obituary
William G. Shearer

AGE: 76 • Forked River, NJ

William G. Shearer, 76, of Forked River passed away at home on March 23, 2017. Billy was born in Morristown and formerly of Peapack-Gladstone, NJ. He had resided in Forked River since 1974 where he worked as a Supervisor for GPU Nuclear Power Plant. After Billy retired in 1996, he continued to work as a custodian for Lacey Twp. Millpond Elementary School.

From a young age Billy was passionate about music. He played guitar and sang with his band, Billy King and the Coachmen. He also was fortunate to perform with many famous musicians. No matter where he went he was always asked to perform. He was always the first to offer his talents to local charities and benefit fundraisers. Partnered with his love of music was an enthusiasm of hockey. He played from a young age and was a dedicated fan to the NY Rangers, always sharing stories about "The Garden."

In addition to these interests and being a dedicated employee, he found time for another hobby- fishing. If the conditions were right he could be found out on the boat in Barnegat Bay and fishing for fluke, blackfish and stripers.

Billy and his wife loved to travel. From cruises in the Caribbean, trips to Scotland and Italy or traveling to see a favorite musical act, they were always on the go. One last thing that brought him joy was spending valuable time going to dinner, taking day trips and laughing and having a good time with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Shearer was predeceased by his son, Andrew, in 1994. Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Esther M. Shearer (nee Gallo), 2 daughters, Danielle and her husband Michael Palagonia of Forked River and Stephanie and her husband Andrew Rasmussen of Lanoka Harbor and two grandchildren, Delaney and Teagan. Also surviving is his nephew, Robert Shearer and his wife Karen, along with many other nieces and nephews.

A Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 4-8 pm and Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral service at 10:00 am at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9, Forked River. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Manahawkin.
