William H. Dunphey Obituary
William H. Dunphey

AGE: 60 • Freehold

William Hunt Dunphey died peacefully at his home on April 7, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer.

Bill was born on September 19, 1956 in Lakewood, New Jersey, to Everett Richard Dunphey and Nancy Dunphey. Bill grew up with his four siblings in Beach Haven and while he lived in many locations around the world, LBI always maintained a special place in his heart. He enlisted in the United States Air Force when he was eighteen and retired after twenty years with full honors in 1995 with the rank of Master Sergeant and proudly served his country during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. While in the service, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. Upon his military retirement, he worked as a network engineer for Harris Corp. at Lakehurst NAS. Bill's story would not be complete without the beautiful love he found in his marriage to Vasanthi "Va", who he met in the spring of 1975 when he was a young Airman stationed in England. They married three years later and she remained by his side to the end.

Bill is survived by his wife Vasanthi, and his three children, Elizabeth, who lives in Brooklyn, NY, William and his wife Brooke who live in York, ME and Christopher and his wife Amanda, who live in Toms River along with their four grandchildren Jonathan, Christian, Penelope and Samantha.

Upon his retirement from Lakehurst, he built a successful real estate business and he enjoyed renovating his farm in Freehold, NJ, planting oak trees, and traveling with Va. Bill loved spending his time with his wife, and family, while teaching his grandchildren the fine art of chess.

Bill will be buried in a private ceremony on April 13th at Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Viewing hours will be held on April 12th from 6pm to 8pm at Silverton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can made to Wounded Warriors. www.silvertonmemorial.com.
