William "Bill" Hammarstrom Obituary
William "Bill" Hammarstrom

Waretown - William "Bill" Hammarstrom, 86, born on December 25, 1931, passed away on September 7th.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn, his children Will and his wife, Ann, of Waretown; Kenny and his wife, Valerie, of Missouri; Robin Eble and her husband, Charles, of Little Egg Harbor; Gina Lawreson of Deptford; Roy of West Virginia, and Howard and his wife, Anna, of Waretown. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will cherish their memories with him forever.

Bill's achievements were remarkable. He began as a clammer in Barnegat Bay. Because of his desire for a party boat, he built his own 42-ft. boat in 1957. He built a dozen or more party and commercial boats, including the Carolyn Ann III. Bill was a party-boat captain for over 60 years.

He was an award-winning decoy carver and had a great concern for the environment and especially the Barnegat Bay and the ocean and had written many letters to officials expressing his concerns.

In his retirement years with his love for his land, he created a Christmas Tree Farm, The Goose Pond Farm in Waretown.

Services will be held Sunday, Sept. 30th at the Waretown Fire House from 1 pm until 4pm.

Arrangements by Thos. L Shinn Funeral Home, Manahawkin.
