AGE: 75 • Morganville

William "Bill" J. Carney, 75, of Morganville, NJ passed away on Sunday December 11, 2016 at the Staten Island University Hospital, Staten Island, NY. Born in Queens, NY, he moved to Middletown, NJ in 1969, then settled in Morganville, NJ in 1982. Bill started his career at the New York City Transit Authority at age 18. He retired after 40 years of service as a General Superintendent of Signals. Bill loved the railroad and everything to do with trains. He was an astronomy and American history enthusiast and enjoyed bird watching and nature. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, passing down to them his love for trains and the stars. Bill was an extraordinary man and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Shirley, four sons Charles P. Breitweiser, Robert and wife Lisa Carney, Russell and wife Lola Breitweiser, and Stephen and wife Donna Carney, three daughters Cheryl and husband Dave Palew, Karen and husband Fred Bennett, and Sandra and husband Erik Weston, a sister Mary "Maureen" Carney, as well as 9 grandchildren Taylor, Charlie, Kayla, Hannah, Alex, Katie, Stephanie, Jacob and James. Relatives and friends are invited to visit the Waitt Funeral Home for a viewing on Friday December 16, 2016 from 3-7pm. A funeral mass & burial will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10am at the St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro, NJ followed by entombment in the St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Marlboro, NJ.
