William P. Wondrasch Obituary
William P. Wondrasch

Middletown - After 97 years of devotion to his country, family, and friends, William (Bill) P. Wondrasch, formerly of Middletown, N.J., died peacefully at home in Saint Charles, IL, on February 27, 2018. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on July 17, 1920, Bill grew up in the Bronx. During World War II, he served gallantly as a Staff Sergeant with the 6th Infantry Division in the Pacific theater and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. In 1947, he married his sweetheart, the former Doris Brereton, and the couple eventually started a family in Manhattan.

Industrious and perpetually upbeat, Bill earned a bachelor's degree in Finance from New York University, where he graduated with honors while working full-time and helping to raise a family. In 1962, he, Doris, and their three daughters moved to Middletown (where son Steven was born in 1963) and resided there for 37 years. He worked as a Budget Analyst for U.S. Satellite Communication Agency out of Fort Monmouth, until his retirement in 1979, after 40 years of dedicated service.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Mets and Cubs fan, Bill, the epitome of a gentleman, will be remembered by all who knew him as a man of many adjectives: charming, serious, humorous, kind, romantic, polite, gracious, meticulous, cheerful, supportive, optimistic…and a man who never missed a chance to dance with his beautiful wife.

Bill was preceded in death by his adored wife, Doris, in 2001, and his precious daughter Nancy, in 1987.

Bill was a decorated hero in the United States Army and a most beloved hero to his family.

Surviving are two daughters, Ellen J. Campbell of San Diego, Calif., and Diane Gullman of Saint Charles, IL, a son, Steven W. Wondrasch of Rumson, N.J. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Jason Campbell, Justin Gullman, Chloe Gullman, Trevor Gullman, and 3 great-grandchildren, Mckenzie Campbell, Corinne Campbell, and Jack Campbell.

Visitation is Sunday, March 4, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Afterward, all are invited to toast Bill at a luncheon at the Rum Runner in Sea Bright, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Services are scheduled for Monday, March 5, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Road, Middletown. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
