William Patrick Sexton

Avon by the Sea - William Patrick Sexton 89 of Avon by the Sea, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center surrounded by his family on 1/1/18. He was born in Manhattan on Feb 3, 1928 to Irish Immigrants, which he was extremely proud of his whole life. He was also proud of being a student of the De La Salle Christian Brothers schools both in grammar school and at La Salle Academy, 2nd street in Manhattan. He was a Navy veteran from 1945 to 1948 and was chosen to work at Naval Intelligence Washington D.C. out of his class of 300. After getting his honorable discharge from the Navy he attended CCNY, Iona and Manhattan Colleges. He was a regional manager with Canada Life, New York Life and Mass Mutual. He opened up his own Marketing and Sales company in the early 70's which dealt with the U.S military Commissaries and Exchanges. He moved the company to Ireland and enjoyed great success with this company until his retirement in 1992. Never to be a man to sit still he worked part time in employment recruiting and started to write Irish historical novels. He wrote 5 of these which he had multiple book signings at the largest chain bookstore in the country. While in New York, he was very involved with Catholic Charities, Catholic Guild for the blind and other Catholic Charities that asked for his assistance.

His love of Ireland and the Irish people guided his life. He was an avid lover of Irish music and Irish dances. He would sit in his kitchen for hours playing Irish music on the radio and playing it on his button accordion which he learned to play by ear with no lessons. He was an avid traveler and traveled with his family all over the world.

He was predeceased by his parents Leo (Co. Limerick) and Mary ( nee: O'Connor Co. Cork). He is survived by his wife of 65 Years Rose and his son Brian (both of Avon) and his son and daughter in law Danny and Samantha, Lithia FL. He is also survived by his 3 loving grandchildren Matthew, Ryan and Kaitlin who called him "PA". He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations in his memory to the Avon by the Sea First Aid Squad instead. At his request there will be no viewing. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church Lincoln Ave in Avon by the Sea on Friday January 5, at 11:00AM.
