George Allen VanSant, Jr.

AGE: 73 • Lanoka Harbor

George Allen VanSant Jr. 73 of Lanoka Harbor passed away Wednesday. Born 10-13-1940 to George A. Sr. and Alwilda Armstrong VanSant in Lakewood, NJ. He married the love of his life, Marcia Miller in 1962. They made their home in Lacey Township in 1972 where he devoted his love of planning to the betterment of the community as a Professional Planner and Land Surveyor. He was an elder of the Forked River Presbyterian Church, past president of the Lacey Chamber of Commerce and served many other community organizations.

George retired from the U.S. Army (active & reserves) in 2000 after 40 years service to our nation. He served in Vietnam 1967-1968 with other tours in Korea & Germany. In 1992, he authored the 50th anniversary commemorative historical research document, "The United States & Senegal, Partners in Conflict". He was a Life Member and Director of the Civil Affairs Association.

He is survived by his wife Marcia, children Shawnna and Wayne Dial, Ryan and Kim VanSant; eight grandchildren, Bryan, Jarrett & Lauren Dial, Tyler and Chase VanSant and Zach, Steven & Adam Morey.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm Monday at Layton's Home for Funerals, 250 West Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 25th at Forked River Presbyterian Church, 131 North Main Street, Forked River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Forked River Presbyterian Church or Wounded Warrior Project.
