Lucy B. Nilson entered into life eternal on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at her home in Monmouth Beach. Born in England, she was raised in Philadelphia and moved to Monmouth Beach with her late husband, Kristian L. Nilson Jr.

Mrs. Nilson loved reading and she loved learning. She was known for the many cards and notes she sent over the years to her cherished friends and family. Her advice and conversations often included Biblical quotes, lines from Shakespeare, and French phrases, all of which she knew by heart.

Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Nilson attended Salvation Army Officers College and was employed by The Salvation Army. She was a fifty-year member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Nilson was a founding Trustee of the Monmouth Beach Library Association and served many years as a library volunteer.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Nilson was predeceased by her husband, parents, and brother. She is survived by her children, Kristian Nilson, Laurel Browning, Karen D'Agostino, Lucie Nilson, and Carolyn Gross; grandchildren, Kristine Claussen, John and Kristian D'Agostino, Lisa Poland, Marie Tortora, Erik, Sigurd, Hali, and Phalen Kristianson, Melissa Jensen, Ryan Gross, and Heather Burtch; great-grandchildren, Emma Claussen and Preslei Poland; her dear sister-in-law, Dorothy Peterson, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20 at the funeral home. Interment, Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
