AGE: 69 • Forked River

Carole J. Sherkness (nee: Campbell) passed away June 13, 2014 at home after courageous battle with cancer. Born in East Orange, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn Campbell. Carole is survived by her loving husband Robert of 29 years. Also surviving, a brother Jimmy A. Campbell and wife Marilyn; niece Terry Perrine and husband Donald Perrine; and several cousins.

Carole graduated from Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, NJ. She was a member of several bands where she played the French horn. She enjoyed attending music concerts and the annual MusikFest in Bethlehem, PA. She also earned a beautician license from Wilfred Academy in Newark, NJ. She retired from General Motors Acceptance Corporation after 40 years.

She enjoyed her time at the Jersey Shore especially the shore house on Barnegat Bay in Bayville, NJ, and also her new home in Forked River. She was a member, volunteer & race coordinator of several Offshore Power Boat Racing Clubs. She had a great love for animals and adored her two dogs Herbie & Buddy, being an advocate for shelter dogs and donated to several charities. She had a great compassion and love for family and friends. Also was an avid lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.
