Anton Baricevic

1921 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Anton Baricevic

AGE: 93 • West Belmar, Wall

Anton Baricevic, 93, of the West Belmar section of Wall passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune with his family at his bedside.

Anton was born in Ilovik, Croatia and had served in the Italian Army as a Medic. He had also worked as a commercial fisherman in Croatia. Upon his arrival in the US, he was the assembly line mechanic for the Italian Swiss Colony Wine Co., Port Newark for many years; to further support his family he would frequently work a 2nd shift into the evening when most of the other employees had already gone to their homes. His company was so grateful for his exemplary service, that they would drive him home to Newark rather than have him take public transportation at that time of the evening.

He resided in Newark and then in Irvington before moving to Wall in 1987. He was a Communicant of St. Rose Church, Belmar and a deeply religious man who passed his values on to his children. He was a lifelong member of the St. Peter's Benevolent Society, NY, NY.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Maria (nee Belanic) Baricevic in 1964, his parents Matthew and Ivanka Budinic Baricevic and his 6 older siblings. Anton is survived by his devoted children, Carmen Papic and her husband Peter of Union, Larry Baricevic and wife Sandy of Lanoka Harbor, and Peter and Gabriel Baricevic of Wall with whom he lived, his four beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-9pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 11:15am at St. Rose Church, 603 7th Ave., Belmar. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Saddlebrook. In lieu of flowers, the family specifically requests donations to Croatian Relief Services, P.O. Box 355, Fairview, NJ 07022. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home on Thursday.
