Alexander Todd Getty

AGE: 72 • Manchester

On Aug. 4, 2014, Alex Getty, died from complications of open-heart surgery at Jersey City Medical Center. Alex was born April 5, 1942, as the son of Juditha (nee Onorato) and Rodman Getty in Long Branch. He resided in Rumson for many years. He attended Mercerburg Academy for high school, followed by Lafayette College, Pa. for his undergraduate degree. Upon graduation from college, he entered the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain. He then pursued a career in college administration and education where he spent the last 13 years employed by the Asbury Park Board of Education as a science teacher, where he retired in June 2014.

He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Desly Le Vine Getty; his brother, Bill Getty; his sons, David Serotkin, Jonathan Getty, and his stepson, Bryan Gamza. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sally Le Vine, Manchester; his brother-in-law, Marc Le Vine; 2 grandchildren, Zoe Serotkin and Zane Getty; and his dogs, Codey, Ollie, Samson and Dolly Mae. "The world has suffered a great loss."

The viewing will be from 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 until the funeral services at 12 noon at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan. Shiva will be held Sunday, Monday, Tuesday at the Le Vine residence, 14 Elmswell Ave. (Leisure Knoll), Manchester.
