Mary Ann Donohue

AGE: 77 • Shrewsbury

Mary Ann Donohue died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at her home in Shrewsbury, surrounded by her family. She was 77 years old. Born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to Patrick and Anna Lynch, Mary Ann was the youngest of 5 children. She spent a happy childhood there with her siblings, Patricia, Robert, and Richard along with her extended family, which included her cousin Jean. There were many funny and memorable moments living on Middleton Street which Mary Ann loved to share with her family. Mary Ann graduated from Bishop MacDonald High School in Brooklyn and attended Grace Institute. She worked as an executive assistant at Grace Line and at Best Foods before marrying J. Robert Donohue on Sept. 10, 1960. Mary Ann and Bob lived on Staten Island, New York where their four children were born and where they enjoyed great friends and family before settling in Shrewsbury, NJ in 1973, where they continued to be blessed with many good times. Mary Ann also worked while raising her children, making the balancing act of family and work life seem easy. Truly, her life's work was in raising her children and supporting her grandchildren always with enthusiasm, intelligence, and wit. An avid tennis player, Mary Ann also loved to dance, watch movies, relax at the beach, play board games, and engage in lively conversation. She had a great sense of humor and laughed often.

Mary Ann was an active parishioner of Saint James Roman Catholic Church where she served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister for many years. She fervently believed in the sanctity of human life and was a volunteer for the Birthright organization.

Mary Ann and her husband loved to travel and to entertain. She had a wonderful singing voice which will continue to resound in the hearts and minds of her family.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband Bob; and children, Coleen, Karen, Jean-Marie and Bobby; sons-in law, Bruce Stambaugh and John Jayne; daughter-in-law, Michelle Donohue; and grandchildren, Leigh, Connor, and Dillon Stambaugh, Hannah and Joe Jayne, Ian Chick, Isabelle Rosa, and Ryan and Emma Donohue. She is also survived by her two brothers, Robert and Richard Lynch and her sister, Patricia McCoy, along with 21 nieces and nephews on the Lynch side of the family and 13 on the Donohue side of the family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19 at St. James Church in Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Mary Ann Donohue's memory to the VNA Hospice Association, Red Bank, NJ. Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.
