AGE: 89 • Beachwood

Elena M. Gleason, 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was born on Sept. 8, 1923, in Elizabeth and lived in Beachwood for many years where she raised her family. In 1988, she and her beloved husband, Jim moved to Vero Beach, Fla. Returning to New Jersey in 2006, Mrs. Gleason lived in Toms River and later at the Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville. Mrs. Gleason was a life member of the Beachwood First Aid Squad, an auxiliarian of the Bayville Elks, and a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Bayville. In Vero Beach, she volunteered at the Riverside Theatre and Riverside Children's Theatre. She also served as a Pink Lady at Indian River Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Lady KLES of the Vero Beach Elks Lodge. For several years, Mrs. Gleason was employed by Walmart as a greeter.

Mrs. Gleason was predeceased by James P. Gleason, her dear husband of 51 wonderful years. Surviving are her five beautiful children, Elena Marie Tomkowich of Toms River, James P. Gleason Jr. and his wife Mickey of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Daniel A. Gleason and his wife Candace of Weaverville, N.C., Edward J. Gleason and his wife Kathy of Seaside Heights, and Mark A. Gleason and his wife Kate of Beachwood. She also leaves behind four granddaughters, Christine Irons, Meghan Gleason, Courtney Morales, and Janet Gleason; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. A funeral mass will be offered 9:15 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Luke's R.C. Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River. Please arrive at the funeral home 8:15 a.m. Mrs. Gleason will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery.
