AGE: 90 • Belmar

John A. McGreevy, 90, of Belmar, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Manor-by- the- Sea, Ocean Grove. Mr. McGreevy was born in Jersey City, and was a lifelong resident there until moving to Belmar in 1994. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII, serving with the 8th Air Force Composite Command in Europe. He then enjoyed a long career in banking, retiring from First Jersey National Bank, Jersey City, as Proof Department Manager in 1986. A devout Catholic, he was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis for many years. He was an accomplished artist, whose family loved his oil paintings, as well as an avid reader of history.

Mr. McGreevy was predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Elizabeth (McMahon) McGreevy, as well as by his siblings, June Kiernan, Cornelius McGreevy, and Josephine, in infancy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Noreen (Earley); and his daughters and sons-in-law, Therese and Thomas Ebert of Toms River, Kathleen and Joseph Stamboni of Wall, and Bernadette McGreevy of Jackson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Martin Ebert, Kevin Ebert, Gianna DePinto, J'Aimee Ebert and Patrick Ebert, as well as Martin's fiancée, Theresa Wolfe, and her children, Samarra and Benjamin Pirrong. In addition, he is survived by one great-grandchild, Rian Ebert, many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at St. Rose Church, Belmar, followed by interment at N.J. Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. McGreevy's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
