John C. Carton

AGE: 77 • Spring Lake

John C. Carton, 77, of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2013 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Born in Long Branch to the late J. Gerard and Mary Carton, he attended Avon Elementary and then graduated Asbury Park High School in 1954. Mr. Carton attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, class of 1958, and then went on to attend Georgetown University School of Law in Washington, D.C. graduating in 1961. Mr. Carton served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy He was a long time resident of Spring Lake before moving to Four Seasons in Wall. He was a partner at Carton Law Firm where he was a Certified Trial Attorney for 51 years. He was the Planning Board Attorney for Avon for many years. John enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of the Spring Lake Golf Club. Most of all, he enjoyed the quality time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joanne Kemp Carton in 2011, and his brother J. Gerard Carton, Jr; in 2009

Surviving are his loving children, John C. Carton, Jr. and wife Shawna of Vero Beach, FL; Chris Carton and wife Jodi of Spring Lake, J. Colleen Carton of Pt. Pleasant, and Michele Scenna and husband Derrick, of Wall, his siblings Richard Carton of Wall and Kathryn Coppola of West Long Branch, his cherished grandchildren, Emma, Madeline, Cameron, Annie, John III, Carolyn, Michael, Regan, Patrick, Christopher, and Sarah, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who will dearly miss him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catharine's R.C. Church, Spring Lake, at 10:30AM on Friday, September 27th. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.
