Dr. Alfred J. Rutkowski, 81, of Manahawkin, passed away at home on Sunday, July 27, 2014. Born in Delaware County, PA, he lived in Colonia, NJ before moving to Manahawkin part time in 1988 and full time in 2000. Al was a graduate of St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia and went on to receive his Doctorate from Notre Dame University. He worked for Exxon Mobil for 37 years and worked as a chemist and in marketing. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church in Brant Beach, NJ, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and as a Secular Franciscan Facilitator. He volunteered at many church functions including "Festival of the Sea", the food pantry, teaching Pre-Cana, organizing the Flea Market and bringing clothes to the Francis House to help those living with AIDS and their families. Al always enjoyed having a good time, laughing and spending time with his family and his dogs Annie, Lily and Blossom. He enjoyed travelling to the Bahamas, golfing, boating, watching Notre Dame Football and crafting stained glass. He lived his family life filled with love and laughter.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Alice Rutkowski; his daughter, Carol Masaros and sister, Antoinette Rowley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Rutkowski of Manahawkin; sons, Kurt Ricci of Yonkers, NY, Peter Ricci (Karan) of Sayreville, NJ and Christian Ricci of Brick, NJ; daughters, Sally Miller of Milford, NJ and Lisa Imbert (Frank) of East Stroudsburg, PA; grandchildren, Elyse, Ashley, Alexandra, Branden and Christian Peter and great-grandchildren, Aliyah, LaMont, Sophia and Olivia.

Viewing hours will be held from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm Wednesday July 30, 2014 at Maxwell Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin. Additional visiting will take place from 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31 until his Mass of Christian Burial Celebration at 11 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach. Entombment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Manahawkin.
