Philip F. (Sonny) Bartus, 81, of Lake Ridge, Toms River died July 27, 2017 at home. Sonny spent 30 years as a Truck Driver before retiring from Stott & Davis Motor Express, Moonachie.

Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Brielle before moving to Toms River 12 years ago. Sonny served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Sonny was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant, B.P.O.E. Elks #1698 & the American Legion Post 129 of Toms River. Active in his community, he belonged to the Men's Club & Veterans Club of Lake Ridge.

Sonny was predeceased by his wife, Gina Anne Bartus in 2001, 2 sisters, Rose Marie Bartus in 1938 and Marie Elena Hahn in 2016. Sonny is survived by his companion of 14 years, Barbara Smith, his brother, Richard and his wife, Gladys, his son-in-law, Tom Hickman, Lucy, Joan, grandson, Peter Hickman and his wife, Donna, 2 granddaughters, Rachel Wolek and her husband, Jerry, Jessica Gallo and her husband, Jon, 2 great-granddaughters, Luciana and Adeline. Also, Gregory Smith and his wife, Rita, Gary Smith and his wife, Marguerite, Michael Smith and his wife, Diane.

Memorial Gathering 3-5 PM Wednesday August 2, 2017 at DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, 119 Union Ave., Lakehurst.
