Dorothy Rose Obituary

Dorothy B. Rose, 103, of Olivehurst, CA died on March 31, 2016. She was born October 29, 1912 in Monroe, WA to James Lee and Bertie Dorris. She was a twin, but her sister died just prior to birth. She outlived her three other sisters and one brother. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Roy.

She is survived by her son, Darrell, his wife Dianne Rose of Yuba City, CA and granddaughters Jennifer Rose of Meridian and Kristen Rose of New Jersey. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy's parents moved frequently following work opportunities. During her childhood, they lived in Yuba City where Dorothy attended both Bridge Street and Central Gaither Grammar Schools. She graduated from Snoqualme High School in Washington in 1931. She was always extremely dedicated to her parents. When the economy was deep into depression, she took a job working as a housekeeper for families in her community to help support the family.

The family then moved to Bakersfield, CA. While living there she met Roy Rose at a church service. They married in 1940 and had their son Darrell. Her parents moved for a final time to Olivehurst. And when Darrell was six months old, they followed her parents to Olivehurst. Roy built houses included the one in which she lived since 1945 directly across the street from Dorothy's parents' house.

Dorothy always was the family caregiver, doting over her son, husband, and parents. She was a homemaker who made legendary pies and kept the house and yard spotless. Even though she was a shy person, she made friends easily. She enjoyed a good conversation and was well-liked in her community. She also enjoyed reading, watching soap operas, and working in the yard.

She dearly enjoyed her granddaughters, being part of every family celebration until her health wouldn't allow. She spent her final years in a skilled nursing facility. She loved her family and greatly enjoyed having visitors, such as her niece Doris and her friend Evelyn as well as church members who would come to sing for her.

Funeral services are scheduled Friday, April 8, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Sierra View Mortuary at 4900 Olive Ave., Olivehurst, CA. Interment will follow at the Sierra View Memorial Park.
